Daihatsu Tanto(650) Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Tanto(650) ダイハツ(DAIHATSU)

I recently had the chance to drive the Tanto, so I thought I’d write a post about it.
The grade was the Custom RS, and of course, it’s a turbo.

At first glance, it doesn’t seem to have changed drastically from the previous model. However, looking closely at the details, you can see that the front mask—especially the headlights on the Custom grade—has been updated.
Compared to the previous model, it gives a slightly more mature and “cleaner” impression.
The fuel economy has also improved, albeit slightly.

My impression from this drive was that the turbo acceleration has become significantly smoother.
While it uses the same KF engine, I heard they made substantial changes to the CVT gearing.
The videos on the official website mentioned a “solid and premium ride quality,” and I could definitely feel that. Though, for some, it might feel a bit “heavy.” Perhaps partly because it was a brand-new car, it was quite quiet, and I could tell there was a real commitment to comfort.
They’ve also added some clever functionality. Starting from this model, the “Miracle Walk-Through Package” is available as an option, which allows the driver’s seat to slide back much further than before. This makes it possible for the driver to move to the back seat just by sliding the passenger seat forward, without ever having to step out of the car.
For example, a mother in the driver’s seat can attend to her baby in the back seat without opening her door.
To use this wide-sliding feature, you have to press a button on the lower right of the driver’s seat, but since it’s a feature previous Tantos didn’t have, I think it’s a great addition.

Now, let’s move on to the cabin air filter replacement.
Sorry for the long intro!

1. Removing the glove box

Push the left side of the glove box inward while pulling it toward you to release the stoppers on both sides, one at a time.
Once the left side is unhooked, follow the same steps for the right side, and the glove box will come off.

2. Removing the cover

Once the glove box is out, you’ll see a white cover. Push the locking tab on the left inward and pull it toward you to remove it.
The right side is inserted into two holes, so pull it slightly toward the left as you pull it toward you.

3. Replacing the filter

With the cover removed, you’ll see the filter. Simply swap it out for a new one.

By the way, the Subaru Chiffon can be serviced using this same method!
