Getting Bigger with Every Generation!?
Is it just me, or is the Impreza growing up (and out) with every redesign!?
Hey there!
Today, I’m going to show you how to replace the cabin air filter on a Subaru Impreza (GJ/GP series).
Looking at this Impreza, I couldn’t help but notice a trend. Much like Honda, Subaru seems to lean toward making their cars more ‘premium’ and larger with every new model. I swear the Impreza from two generations ago felt a lot more compact!
The Forester is the same way, right? The current model feels massive.
Maybe because these are best-sellers, Subaru treats them like ‘Deities’—the Great Legacy God or the Mighty Impreza Demon—upgrading them into luxury beasts as a sign of worship?
Anyway, let’s get down to business.
Step 1: Remove the Glove Box
First, open the glove box. On the left side, you’ll see a damper. Pull it to the left to disconnect it.
Next, push both sides of the glove box inward while pulling it toward you to release the stoppers. It’s easier if you do it one side at a time. Once the stoppers are clear, the whole box will come right out.
Step 2: Swap the Filter
Gently squeeze the tabs on the filter cover (top and bottom) and pull it toward you. Now, just swap the old filter for a fresh one!
Essentially, the process is the same as the previous model.
By the way, did you know the Impreza is classified as a ‘3-number’ (wide-body) car in Japan, not because of its engine size, but because of its physical dimensions? It’s like Subaru is saying, ‘Who cares about engine displacement? Check out this stance!’
That’s the confidence of a Boxer engine for you.
