Toyota Prius α / Daihatsu Mebius Cabin Air Filter Replacement

priusa TOYOTA & DAIHATSU(トヨタ&ダイハツ)

Hey there.
Today, I’m going to show you how to replace the filter on the Prius α (Alpha).
Following the explosive popularity of the original Prius, this Prius α is one of the variants that branched out.
Recently, it’s also been quietly released by Daihatsu under the name “Mebius.”
The replacement procedure is basically the same.
As you probably know, Toyota and Daihatsu are part of the same group, so it’s common for them to sell the same car under different names. Depending on the location, it seems you can even buy a Daihatsu Move at a Toyota dealership.
Well, I suppose you’d get better perks and service if you bought a Daihatsu car directly from a Daihatsu dealer…
But if you already have a long-standing relationship with a Toyota dealer, and you find it a hassle to go to a Daihatsu shop and talk to a salesperson you don’t know, this might be a good option for you.
The Prius α has a shape similar to what we used to call “station wagons.”
Literally, it’s like taking a Prius and adding that wagon “plus alpha” to it.
Of course, its fuel economy can’t quite beat the original, but in exchange, it definitely offers plenty of those “plus alpha” benefits.
Now, let’s get to the main point.

Remove the glove box panel

First, open the glove box. Push down on the two clips of the panel on the right side while pulling it toward you to release the top part. Then, lift the entire panel upward to remove it.
This is a rare pattern for Toyota—different from the usual way!

Remove the filter cover

Once the panel is off, you’ll see a white filter cover. Push the clip on the left side to the right while pulling it toward you to release the left side of the cover. Then, pull the entire cover to the left to remove it.
From here on, it’s pretty much the usual routine.

All that’s left is to swap the filter, and you’re done!

It’s a different pattern than usual, but actually, I found this way much easier since you don’t have to remove the entire glove box. Once you get used to it, you can probably swap it in seconds.
This is definitely something you can easily do yourself!
