How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter: Mitsubishi Outlander Hey there! Today, I’ll show you how to replace the cabin air filter on a Mitsubishi Outlander. The car I worked on was a PHEV, but as of September 2014, the procedure is the same for all Outlander models. They all seem to use the same filter type as well. The process is quite simple, so why not try doing it yourself for a change? Anyway, shall we get started?
Remove the Damper

Open the glove box and disconnect the damper stay located on the right side. While many cars have the damper on the left, the Outlander has it on the right. Since it might be a bit hard to see on the right side, be careful not to pull the glove box out without disconnecting the damper first!
Remove the Glove Box

Push both sides of the glove box inward while pulling it toward you to release the stoppers at the back. Once the stoppers are clear, the glove box should come off. If the bottom hinges are stuck, try holding one side at a time and pulling it toward you. Once one side is disconnected, do the same for the other, and the entire glove box will come out.
Remove the Filter Cover

Once the glove box is removed, you’ll see the filter cover. Spread the tabs on both sides of the cover to remove it. It’s easier to reach the left side by putting your hand in from the fuse box area. Once the left side is unclipped, the right side should come off without any trouble.
Replace the Filter

Now, all that’s left is to swap the filter. The genuine filter was “Made in Germany”—interesting! This method of replacement has become quite the standard across many manufacturers recently. As long as you get the hang of pulling out the hinges if they get stuck, it’s a total breeze.
