Mitsubishi Colt / Colt Plus Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Replacement is simple!

​Hey there.
​Today, I’m going to show you how to replace the cabin air filter on the Mitsubishi Colt.
​A bit “classic,” isn’t it?
​I remember the Colt selling quite well back when compact cars first started becoming a big trend.
It’s no longer a current model, but the replacement process was so easy that I wanted to share it with you.
​It feels like we don’t see them on the road as much lately, but I think it was a pretty decent car.
​Personally, I would have liked a bit more “punch” from it, but I suppose owners of this type of car aren’t really looking for that, so it’s not a problem at all.
​I feel like the Honda Fit was its main rival back then.
The competition was just a bit too tough, I guess.
​If this car had evolved into a hybrid or an electric vehicle, maybe it would still be around today… Well, I’ll keep an eye on Mitsubishi’s future success.
​Now, let’s get to the main point.
​

Locating the filter

​
​The filter is located under the glove box.
It’s a bit of a tight spot, so you’ll need to crouch down to see it.
​It’s easier to spot if you look from around the passenger door entrance.
​

Removing the filter cover

​
​Confirm the location of the filter cover.
Just pull the handle on the front side downward, and the cover will come off easily.
​

Replacing the filter

​
​Now all you have to do is swap the filter!
It’s surprisingly simple.
​It’s so easy that it almost doesn’t need an explanation.
​

If there’s no cover…

​
​If your car doesn’t have a filter cover, you’ll need to cut out the opening for the filter, order a genuine filter cover, and then install it.
The area outlined in black is your guide.

Additional Note

​
​If your car has a thin-type filter like the one in the photo, and you want to install a thicker filter (like one from Denso), please note that you’ll need to cut away two specific parts of the filter housing to make it fit.
​
​These are the parts shaded in gray on both sides in the image.
The long, thin white section is where the filter is installed.
As long as you have the filter cover, the replacement itself is quite a breeze.
​Newer models are more likely to have them installed by default.
Basically, if the car has automatic climate control, it seems to come with a filter.
